Zone diet food or the concept of “you are what you eat” is a key point of the zone diet. The foods that you eat have a dramatic role on your mental and physical state. Most diets are concerned with counting calories, but this is not the case with the zone diet. When you follow the zone diet you view the food you eat as a drug. This drug has a very profound affect on insulin levels in you body. As the insulin levels rise and fall your body and mood go through wild swings, you have “ups” and “downs”.
To control these mood swings these are the principles in the zone diet
- 30% of your diet is proteins
- 40% of your diet is carbohydrates
- 30% of your diet is fats
- Supplement your diet with omega-3 fish oils
- Follow a regular exercise program
