Recent Atkins Diet research has shown that Dr Robert Atkin’s diet approach, created more than 30 years ago, is actually a safe approach to weight loss. Experts in the nutrition and dietary field who initially thought this plan was unsafe have decided to take a look at the Atkins diet through scientific research, and have been surprised by the results.

During the first few months people who follow the Atkins diet often loose twice the amount of weight as people who follow a standard high-carbohydrate, low fat diet. In addition their blood pressure and cholesterol improve. To date the experiments have been small, but the number of studies shows the Atkins diet is an effective weight loss program.

Most nutritionists and dieticians believed any diet that consisted of meat, eggs, and cheese was nutritionally unsound. While many who performed the experiments intended to prove the Atkins diet didn’t work, but were surprised by the results. The most astonishing surprise came from the changes in cholesterol level of the patients in the study. On average the bad cholesterol went up 7 points while the good cholesterol went up 12 points. Additionally the triglycerides of the participants in the study dropped 22 points
