Causes of Childhood Obesity

The causes for childhood obesity general fall into two major groups environmental or genetic.
Environmental Causes
- Poor diet, such as high fat, or high sugar foods
- Lack of good protein and fiber foods to stimulate muscle growth and development.
- Excessive snacking or overeating
- Socioeconomic conditions – low income families don’t have access to good resources
- Lack of activity – too much time is being spent in front of TV, computers, video games
- Lack of regular exercise
Genetic causes
- Some Genetic conditions give children a higher disposition to being overweight.
