How do Elliptical Trainers Work?
By simulating the natural motion of your body, elliptical cross trainers provide an excellent whole body workout. The elliptical or oval layout of the axis of motion, it provides a very natural movement for your ankle, knees, and hips. Elliptical trainers will allow you to simulate walking, jogging or running. As the main wheel is positioned directly under your body it creates a natural center of gravity, very similar to the one created by your bodies natural motion.
When I use an elliptical trainer what muscle groups will I exercise?
In the late 1990′s elliptical trainers began to be produced with upper body poles. These poles allowed the major muscle groups in your upper body including the arms, chest, back, and deltoid muscle groups. This was already in addition to the glutes thighs and calves that were already being exercised with elliptical foot pedals.
How long do I need to use my elliptical trainer when I workout?
As elliptical trainers work the major muscle groups in both your upper and lower body, they can make your exercise routine very efficient. While each case is different and you should always consult with a physician or other qualified health professional before beginning any exercise program, experts recommend between 30-45 minutes 3 to 4 times a week. If you are attempting to lose weight in combination with a balanced proper diet you may exercise more frequently for faster results. If you are attempting build muscle mass or increase endurance every other day is generally more effective.
Do I have to do anything to take care of my elliptical trainer?
Most modern machine were designed to require little or no maintenance. If any perspiration gets onto your trainer you should wipe it down after your workout. If your unit becomes stiff or squeaky you will need to consult your owner’s manual for the proper procedure for relubricating it. Generally speaking elliptical trainers use a silicone based lubricant. WD-40 or other oil based lubricants are incompatible and may cause serious permanent damage to your elliptical trainer.
Are elliptical trainers just another fad?
While exercise equipment is often very trendy, elliptical trainers have been around for over 15 years and are continuing to gain in popularity. Many exercise professionals continue to recommend them as they offer they ability to exercise most of the major groups in your body at once. Saving you time, money, and floor space.
Are Elliptical Trainers suitable for beginners?
Again you should always check with your doctor or other qualified health care professional first, but using an elliptical trainer has been effective for everyone willing to put in the time regardless of existing fitness level.
What should I look for when choosing an elliptical trainer?
You should look for a unit with a range of motion that is compatible with your own. It should also be smooth or fluid and not have any “sticky” spots or points. It should also be relatively quiet.
How much should an elliptical trainer cost?
Prices will vary depending on features and materials used. Using lightweight strong materials will increase the cost compared with other models. However this will make the unit easier to move or store if that’s an important to you. Adding electronics such as monitoring and timers will increase the cost as well.
