If walking, jogging, or running is a regular part of your exercise routine, chances are bad weather has ruined your workout on more than one occasion. However there is a solution for your problem and it is a treadmill. Besides inclement weather problems a treadmill allows you to exercise when it’s convenient for you when walking outside may not be the best idea, such as early in the morning or late at night. You can also use them to watch your favorite TV show, news, or movie while you exercise.

Treadmills were originally used for stress tests by hospitals and doctors, however they have progressed a lot since the early days. Due to advances in materials sciences and manufacturing advances treadmills have come down in price so they are now within the reach of the average consumer. They are now lightweight and have wheels allowing them to be moved for easy storage.

If you are interested in something more than the basic treadmill there are many options available to you. One of the most basic features is a timer allowing you to monitor how long you exercise. Some other features include heart rate monitors allowing you know your heart rate during your exercise. More advanced features include variable resistance and may include the ability to incline the treadmill allowing you to simulate off road conditions.

The two most important parts of a treadmill are the belt, which should be thick and durable as this is the most common part on a treadmill that needs to be replaced or repaired. If the belt ever becomes ripped or torn, you should repair it immediately to prevent a serious injury from occurring. The second most important part is the motor. It should be able accommodate your full body weight and still operate without showing signs of stress. If your motor begins to show signs of stress or operate in a manner outside of normal operating conditions have it examined by a professional. If the unit needs lubrication be sure to consult you owners manual. Most use specialized silicone lubricants. In fact using petroleum based lubricants like WD-40 will cause permanent damage to your treadmill.
