With people leading more stressful and hectic lives, everyone needs to find a way to relax even if it’s only for a few hours at a time, and chances are there’s a local day spa to help you relax. A day spa is differs from a vacation spa because you only visit for a few hours instead of a few days, so they generally offer a few less services. If you are interested in choosing a day spa here are some helpful tips.

day-spa-3The first thing you look for and always be looking at is cleanliness. The establishment should always be clean, the cleaner the better, it should almost approach the cleanliness of a hospital room, without a clinical feeling.

The receptionist and staff in general should be friendly and willing to answer questions you may have. If you’ve never been to a day spa before mention this and they will generally volunteer more information. If it’s not busy you can ask for small tour of the facility. You may have to skip certain rooms if they are in use.

Ask the receptionist about tipping. Most Day Spas operate the same way as a hair salon with a 15 to 20% tip, however some spas are all inclusive, so ask before hand.

Depending on the services you are choosing you may have to fill out a medical information and release form. This is to protect you, should you have allergies or other pre existing conditions that may affect your service. The time to find out you are allergic to chocolate is before the chocolate infused mud pack is applied not afterwards.

Compare prices for ala carte services versus a package. Most spas offer packages with popular services offered at a discounted rate. You can add on extra services ala carte giving you your own custom package.

If you choose a package and will be at the spa longer than 4 hours a snack or lunch will often be included. If you have any special dietary requirements bring them up before hand.

Lastly remember you’re visiting the spa to relax and rejuvenate your mind and body. Forget your day to day worries and enjoy the experience.
