Keeping Motivated During Your Workouts

Even though you have the desire to exercise, making sure you actually do exercise is still a challenge. Here are some tips to help you stay motivated and make sure you exercise.
Schedule a time frame: You’ve set aside time for your workday, picking up and driving the kids around, so why not schedule your workouts. Put your workouts or classes in your planner. If you set aside the time for your workouts you’ve removed an obstacle and are less likely to skip a session.
Get a workout Partner: For many people getting a workout buddy is key element of their success. The partner gives them someone who can help them stay motivated when they are having a “bad day”. The social aspects can make workouts more enjoyable.
Don’t Skip Workouts Entirely: Let’s be honest there are going to be days where exercising will be difficult. Maybe you had a bad day at work, a fight with your spouse or family. Instead of skipping your exercise session and giving into a pint of Hagen Dazs, opt for a shorter workout instead. Go for a 10 or 15 minute walk in the park or just around the neighborhood. Sometimes just being alone with your thoughts can help you sort things out.
The Hardest Part is starting: For many people the hardest part of any workout session is the first 15 minutes. There’s often a desire to skip the warm-up and get straight to work, however this can often be a costly mistake. People who don’t warm up are much more likely to injure themselves.
Getting over the Hump: If you’re involved in a long class or exercise session, set a mini goal of at least getting half way through. Once you’ve made it through 25 minutes of 45 minutes aerobics class you’re more than halfway there, and it’s all downhill from that point.
A Solid Finish: Just as important as the warm-up is the cool down part of your session. The 8 to 10 minutes you spend cooling down allows your body to gradually return to its normal level and gives your muscles a chance to relax.
