When people consider using a spa they often question what they can expect when experiencing a spa treatment. They are also curious what the proper etiquette is when visiting a spa.
It is always suggested that you visit a spa for a tour before you decide to invest in a spa treatment. This is a good opportunity to see the facilities and learn the different treatments they offer. During the tour, feel free to question how the treatments work and what procedures are followed. Some treatments even require you to prepare beforehand (facials require no makeup), so it always a good idea to ask if anything is necessary before you arrive on your spa day.
When you arrive at the spa for your treatment you should arrive at least 15 minutes earlier than your appointment time. This will allow you time to change out of your street clothes into a robe and will also allow you to begin your stress free spa experience. Chances are you a paying a good deal of money to enjoy a spa experience, so it is important to remember to SLOW down and RELAX. It is never a good idea to schedule a treatment on a day you are running errands or have other appointments.
Upon arrival you will be shown to a changing area where you will find lockers for your personal items. You have the option of showing at the spa when you arrive. Once you are in a spa robe, you will be lead to your treatment room, or to a waiting area. Most spas have waiting areas that are designed to put you in a relaxed mood. Low level, soft lighting, candles, soft music – all add to the worry-free, relaxed atmosphere.
When you are taken to your treatment area you will meet with the spa personnel that will be providing the treatment. Spa treatments include facials, massages, water therapy, full body wraps, etc. Some take an hour or so, while others are longer. You may even be treating yourself to a full day at the spa, with different spa treatments and a healthy lunch as well.
It is important to express your concerns to the spa personnel before, during and after the treatments. If you are uncomfortable at any time, you should advise the technician immediately.
Once you treatments are complete, you will change from you robe and pay for your services at the front desk. Gratuities are usually not included, and are customary in the amounts of 15 -20% of the service.
If you enjoy the spa treatments, try to make them a regular part of your life and encourage family and friends to experience them as well.
