Is there really a swimsuit that is the perfect suit for you? Finding the suit that flatters your body type is possible if you learn the rules for your body type.
If you are small on top you need tops with a touch of padding or an under-wire. Try to find a top with adjustable straps at shoulders or around back so you can adjust and tighten them. You may want to try the newest little swimsuits from Brazil. Brazilian women are generally smaller on top than American women and their swimsuits are cut accordingly. You can try the bandeau tops or tri-tops. Avoid tops with too much fabric or that do not fit properly. It may be better to purchase separate pieces so you can pick the proper size.
If you are big on top, you may need some extra support. Look for under-wire tops. Halter top bikinis can also be a good choice since they offer support and cleavage. Look for styles that are banded around the midriff and tied in back and around the neck. This style will give you lift and let you make your own adjustments. If you are looking for a one piece- look for some structure in the bust like foam cups or a shelf bra. Straight cut bust styles like a classic tank can look sporty and clean. Choose wide straps as they will provide the support and comfort you need. You should avoid the bandeau tops and those tri-tops that offer minimal coverage.
For a long body shape go wild with embellishments at the hips and bust line. Jewels, ties, bows and rings are all good for your style. Horizontal stripes and bright colors would look nice. Try fabrics like stretch terry and velvet. If you want a one piece suit, try a cut-out suit. It will break up your long torso like a bikini will. Boy shorts could be used for your slim hips or ruffled skirts and cover ups. You should avoid vertical stripes, solid dark colors and high necklines.
If you have short legs or a short torso, play up your figure by finding a suit with a high cut thigh. This will make your legs look longer and accentuate your waist. Try vertical stripes to visually lengthen your body. Wear a solid bottom bikini and a printed top. This will draw the eye upward and give you a longer look. A good look is a solid, one piece suit with a plunging neckline which creates a continual, long appearance. Avoid boy shorts and skirted bikinis as they draw the eye downward and can make you look shorter.
If you have no waist or slim hips, create some curves. Wear a one piece suit with a high cut on the thigh cut. A belted waistline on a belted suit will give the appearance of a whittled middle. Try a draped, surplice detail that pinches in at the waist or a curvy seam line that runs down each side of the torso. Bikinis are a good choice for you. You can add illusion at the hips with ruffles, rings and bows. If you also have a smaller top, go for a strapless bandeau. A dark solid bottom with a wildly printed or embellished top will work well. Things to avoid include solid colored or horizontal striped one-pieces.
Plus sizes can also find the right suit. Look for one piece suits with lace or mesh inserts. A well placed cut out or a deep V neckline can change a visual image. A sheer sarong can give you the confidence you may need. Dark cool colors are always good. As are swirling or V patterns. Look for swimsuits with a dark solid panel down each side of the torso and a floral printed middle. Try to avoid too much fabric and stay away from whites and bright color fabrics.
If you are self conscious about your tummy try a tummy control panel. There are also two-piece suits- the meet and greet tankinis that cover just enough. To also conceal your waist look for draping around the waist or hips. You should avoid itsy bitsy bikinis and solid colored one piece.
For wide shoulders, play up the bottom of your torso and minimize the top. Wear bikini bottoms with a lot of color and print. Look for wide shoulder straps and square necklines. Avoid V silhouettes by staying away from plunging necklines and teeny tiny bikini bottoms.
The new mini skirted bikinis are made just for those with big bottoms. Try a smooth skimming skirt that is short and sweet but covers where needed. You could also try a moderate bikini bottom. A solid bottom and a print top is a nice look. Or try a maillot one piece. To balance your look, look for wide straps or a strong horizontal neckline. Playing up the top will draw attention away from the bottom. You should avoid boy shorts, too skimpy bottoms and too many ruffles or details at the hips.
Moms to be should look for suits that you can let out and adjust as your hips and tummy expand. You also will want support in the bust. Avoid buying a cheap suit. Spend the money on one or two higher quality ones that will last.
If you are getting a new suit for swimming, get a one piece. Look for one that does not cut into your shoulders and is comfortable. Look for stretchy fabric that does not creep up your backside. Bikinis are not a smart choice for swimming as you do not want them to come undone while you are doing laps.
