Taking steps to prevent childhood obesity is always preferable to having to deal with an existing obesity issue. By laying down some good health guidelines parents can help their children reach these goals.

The primary step should always be nutrition. By eliminating or keeping unhealthy foods in home to a minimum you are more likely to succeed. This is the type of action that is going to require support from the entire family to be effective. Stock the house with lots of fruits, vegetables, and grain foods. When choosing proteins, limit cuts of meat with high fat levels, instead opt for healthier options like chicken, fish or lean cuts.

A healthy active exercise program is beneficial to everyone. To have the most success you should choose an activity that your child enjoys so they remain interested. Organized activities are a great place to start, consider things like little league, softball, soccer, or swimming. In addition to counting as exercise they will help develop social and team building skills.
